Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir is comprised of mostly volunteer singers, incorporating eight Choral Scholars from local universities. The choir leads congregational singing and provides special music at the 11:00 am worship service each Sunday, as well as special services throughout the year.
The Sanctuary Choir draws on a rich tradition of sacred music, from familiar, American church standards, to classics of the English cathedral repertoire, to contemporary anthems. Anglican psalm chant is also a strong tradition in this ensemble and in our worship.
In 2024, the choir toured in England, with residencies at Canterbury Cathedral and St. Albans Cathedral.

St. Swithun Handbell Guild
The handbell ensemble at St. Stephen is comprised of approximately 16 ringers who ring one to two times per month. Ability to read music is required for this ensemble. The handbell ensemble rings on 5 octaves of Schulmerich bells and 5 octaves of Malmark chimes.
The handbell ensemble is named after Swithunus who was an Anglo-Saxon bishop of Winchester and patron saint of Winchester Cathedral. The British weather lore proverb of St. Swithun is that if it rains on St. Swithun’s day (July 15), it will rain for 40 days.

The Peter Mark Scott Sanctuary Organ
4 manuals | 100 ranks | 6,021 pipes
The Sanctuary Organ at St. Stephen recently underwent a major upgrade in a project that spanned from planning in 2019 to completion in 2025. This project consisted of a new 4 manual console and the addition of a large Chancel Swell division. Quimby Pipe Organs completed this project, with Dan Garland serving as consultant. This project was made possible by many donors who generously pledge to a capital campaign, with the lead gift coming from the estate of Mark Scott.
Originally built by M. P. Möller in 1970, the organ consisted of 55 ranks, with many stops prepared for planned additions. In 1976, Möller returned to install a 6-rank chancel organ, the Trompette en Chamade, and 32’ Contra Bombarde. The organ was extensively rebuilt and rescaled in 1993 by Dan Garland. The project included major additions and re-voicing, console updates, and a new façade.
