Youth Activities and Events

Confirmation for those seeking to know about Church Membership, their faith, and the Presbyterian Church offered for 6th – 8th Graders during the School Year (each Sunday from 9:45 – 10:45 AM; Star Bucks Room, Upstairs in the Education Building). Consists of a long examination of theology, Church History, Church Polity, with a retreat and more fun activities!

For 6th – 12th graders. Gather with us on Sunday Evenings, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM during the school year and 5:00 – 8:00 PM during the Summers for field trips and special activities. These include mission projects such as helping with Samaritan House, Room in the Inn, CASA House, Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, Crop Walk and so many more. We also visit other churches and other religions to be informed by understanding other points of view. Fun times and great discussions!!

For one week every January at Austin College, ninth through twelfth graders meet other Presbyterian youth for a large conference.

A Spring Break trip for youth, parents and potential sponsors to visit the July mission trip site to take pictures and gather information for planning. The Youth Mission Trip has been a fixture in our schedule for 10 years. We work one week on construction projects and Vacation Bible School around the U.S. Our most recent trip was to the Navajo Nation in NE Arizona and SE Utah. It was fabulous. We have fund raisers to get everyone there. Our past sites include: Olathe and Kansas City, 2014; Mountains of Colorado 2013; Florida Panhandle 2012; Chicago’s Southside 2011; Kentucky’s Appalachian countryside 2010; South Carolina’s beaches 2009; Arkansas’ Mountains in 2008; Nebraska in 2007; and New Mexico in 2006. Where to next?

Twice a year, the youth provide leadership for worship by being ushers, liturgists, welcome speakers, prayer givers, and in May, sermon providers.

Every Easter, the youth of St. Stephen provide a simple celebration of the resurrection of Christ by providing music and a comical Easter Play for those wishing to start off Easter at 7:00 AM at the church. Occasionally, the service is in Parish Hall, though it could be in the Eastminister Room. Loads of youthful exuberance celebrating God bringing back to life our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The youth group participates in local service and mission projects including
* Cooking supper for Room in the Inn, a homeless ministry
* Providing a meal at Samaritan House, a local residential community
* Shopping, wrapping and delivering Christmas gifts for needy families

The church’s pre-teens and teenagers earn funds for the annual mission trip and Christmas gifts through leadership in Vacation Bible School, a church-wide garage sale around July 4, and by selling “stock” for the mission trip.

Interested youth are invited to participate in Liturgical worship by carrying the Alpha or Omega Crosses, Torches, or Jubilation Streamers (usually on High Holy Days).  Five to 10 acolytes and their sponsors trek to Washington D.C. for the National Cathedral’s Acolyte Festival in October! For more information, contact the Worship Committee of the church for volunteer service.

Sponsored by St. Stephen, this troop is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. It is quite an active troop and one of the largest troops in this area. Meetings are 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Scout House on the southeast corner of the property.

Starting with VBS, the youth of St. Stephen and selected friends from the community assist with the Leadership of our All Day VBS in June. Loads of volunteer work hours and leadership opportunities and building of our friendships.
