During the hottest months of the summer, St. Stephen opens its doors the homeless in our community every Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Through our partnership with the Day Resource Center for the Homeless, up to 15 men are transported to Parish Hall where we provide an air-conditioned space for them to enjoy a restful evening, including two warm meals– and especially warm hospitality among St. Stephen members and friends.
We welcome your participation in this important mission! And your services will be greatly appreciated by our guests!

Volunteer opportunities include:
Pre-Meal preparation— prepare & deliver to the church specified menu items for Dinner (by 3pm Tues) and for Breakfast (by 7pm Tues)
Dinner preparation & cleanup at the church using menu items pre-prepared by volunteers (see above) (4-7pm Tues)
Setup of beds, dining tables, linens, toiletries, games, books & magazines for guests (3-5pm Tues)
Drivers to transport guests from the Day Resource Center to Parish Hall (4:30-5:30pm Tues), and to return them the following morning (7-8am Wed)
Sack Lunch Preparation— lay out sandwich preparation materials, chips & cookies for guests to prepare a sack lunch to take with them the following morning (4-7pm Tues)
Dinner Host— share an evening meal & conversation with guests (5-7pm Tues)
Evening Host— enjoy an evening visiting, playing cards/ games, or watching a movie with guests (7-9pm Tues)
Guest/ Inventory Coordinator– provide a T-shirt, pair of socks & other items needed by guests (e.g., reading glasses, cough drops, ear plugs, etc.); inventory items on hand to determine what needs to be acquired for the following week (7-9pm Tues).
Innkeeper— stay overnight with guests in Parish Hall (9pm Tues – 6am Wed)
Breakfast preparation & cleanup— prepare & serve breakfast delivered by volunteers the night before; assist guests with stripping and storing beds (5:30-8:00am Wed)
Laundry— pick up a tub of laundry to wash (Wed pm or after; return by Tues am)
